The disinfection principle of ozone (O3) is: the molecular structure of ozone is unstable under normal temperature and pressure, and it quickly decomposes into oxygen (O2) and a single oxygen atom (O); the latter single oxygen  ( O )  has strong activity and is effective against bacteria.

ozone oxidation decomposes the enzyme necessary to oxidize glucose inside the bacteria, thereby destroying its cell membrane and eliminate it. The excess oxygen atoms will recombine themselves into ordinary oxygen atoms (O2), without any toxicity. So it is called non-polluting disinfectant.

Ozone residuals are destroyed at UV light wavelengths ranging from 250 to 260nm.
